Here are some common questions about the Drive the Wild tours.

Who is the operator on the trips?

The Drive the Wild Africa travel tours are operated by Drive the Wild. When you make a booking you will enter into a contract with R.P. Harmsen Management B.V.

Who does the driving?
There will be a Drive the Wild Experience guide on hand to provide guidance and support, but these are self-drive tours, so you are behind the wheel in the latest expedition vehicles.
I’ve never driven a 4x4 vehicle before or driven off-road, can I still go on the trip?
Absolutely.

There will be a qualified Drive the Wild Experience guide accompanying each trip who will provide expert guidance and reassurance, but each trip is designed for drivers of all abilities.

What vehicle will I be driving?
Guests will drive a fully kitted Toyota  Safari vehicle.
Are the vehicles manual or automatic?

Most vehicles are equipped with an automated transmission, some have an manual transmission.

What are the driving license and minimum age requirements?
All driving guests must be at least 19 years old and have held a full valid driving license for at least one year. An International Driving Permit is required.
Do I need to purchase insurance to be able to participate?
We recommend a comprehensive travel insurance.
Do I need to have a certain level of physical fitness to take part?
To participate in the Drive the Wild Experience Tour you should ensure that you do not know of any circumstances which would disqualify you from driving such as chronic back problems (or similar conditions), mental conditions which might impair your ability to drive, eyesight which does not meet the standards for driving, pregnancy or heart problems.
How many guests are in each vehicle?
Prices are based on two people sharing a vehicle. On request, a 3rd and 4th person can be booked into the vehicle.
If I am traveling by myself will I have my own vehicle?
No.

For safety reasons we do not allow anyone to travel alone in a vehicle. Solo travelers will be paired in the vehicle with another guest or if there is an odd number of guests, one of our guides will accompany you in the vehicle. You will have your own room/tent throughout the tour.

Are children allowed on the tours?
In general the tours are suitable for children over 14 years, but please contact Drive the Wild for further details and to discuss your individual requirements.
Can I book a whole tour for a private group?
Yes, we will gladly facilitate a private tour for group bookings of 12 guests or more. The program can be tailored and adapted to meet the needs of the group.
Do we travel in a convoy?
Yes, we will travel in convoy using radio communication between the vehicles.
What is the maximum group size on each tour?
To maintain a more intimate and exclusive experience, the maximum (& minimum) group size on each tour will be 12 guests (two per vehicle).
Will I have Cell Phone reception?
The mobile phone coverage in Namibia is surprisingly good. You will have some coverage along most of the highways, even when driving the C-class gravel roads. The signal strength depends also on your mobile phone.
Will I be able to check my e-mail and use Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp etc.?
As a service we will provide you with an Namibian SIM card of MTC with a voice and 3GB data bundle.
What is included in the price of the tour?
General inclusions are as follows: car rental, petrol, insurance, driving activities, park fees, accommodation, breakfast, lunch & dinner meals and airport transfers to/from Windhoek Airport (one fixed transfer arrangement for the whole group). Please refer to the individual tour itinerary for the exact inclusions. Please note that alcohol is not included in the price. Water is included with all meals.
What isn’t included in the price of the tour?
Flights, visa fees (if required), vaccinations, travel insurance, tips, all personal expenses (e.g. alcohol, soft drinks, etc.) and any pre or post-trip arrangements that deviate from the tour itinerary.
Is there a specific type of luggage I should bring?
We do not make any specific recommendations with regards to the type of luggage. The vehicles can accommodate suitcases as well as travel bags.
Which currency is used in Namibia?
The local currency is Namibian Dollar (NAD).
What is the dress code for evenings?
There is no dress code for evenings.
Do I require a visa?
Kindly contact your local consulate to check on your specific requirements. Should you require an invitation letter to receive your visa, please get in touch with us and we will provide you with this.
We would like to extend our holiday by a few days, can we do this?
Absolutely.

What happens if a tour does not reach its minimum numbers? Will it be cancelled?
We endeavour not to cancel any of our departures but in some cases this may be inevitable. We reserve the right to cancel a tour if minimum operating numbers have not been reached 8 weeks before departure.

Are the itinerary and accommodations confirmed?
Your itinerary and accommodations are subject to change based on availability. We reserve the right to replace the itinerary and accommodation with similar alternatives.
